We selected the most important and interesting information about history, art, and monuments of Venice; therefore we made also more specific examinations concerning significant paintings such as the Last Supper by Tintoretto. Beyond dealing with the history and art, we also collected for you special and interesting information like events, curiosities, famous people of Venice. Here you can find also something more frivolous but not less interesting than the history of its art.
We also added some helpful links like emergency addresses, consulates, internet points, public transports and much more for your comfortable staying in Venice.
In this website you will also find access to other sites for planning your holidays.
Together with our websites about Florence, Siena, Pisa Milan, Rome, Turin, Mugello, Versilia, Liguria, our goal is to let you know a little bit more about Italy, as our webservices are always up-to-date. If you have any question, comment or suggestion on how to improve this site, please contact us at info@aboutvenice.org.
" (...) In Venice Tasso's echoes are no more;
And silent runs the songless gondolier;
Her palaces are crimbling to the shore;
And music meets not always the ear;
Those days are gone - but beauty still is here."
With these words Byron describes the melancholic decay of the sparkling past of Venice, but he also end the frase by saying that beauty remains, still today, in this timeless city.
In fact, it has precious artistic and architectural works that still attract thousands of people every year without mentioning the importance of the events like the worlwide renowed Carnival, the Biennale and the famous International Film Festival.
Besides Venice, you can also visit its surroundings, such as Venice Islands: Murano, Burano, Torcello, Chioggia, the picturesque old city centre of Padua and Treviso, and the city of Vicenza.
The humid climate is probably the only imperfection we can find to Venice, but that would be otherwise faultless.
During a stay in Venice don't forget to visit St. Mark's Square and its Basilica, the Doge's Palace, the Rialto Bridge, the Ponte dei Sospiri, the Accademy galleries and the Ca' d'Oro.
Have a nice journey and enjoy your staying in Venice with About Venice!
